When did you first hear about CHILDREN AT RISK?

I was introduced to CHILDREN AT RISK by a business associate and friend Mary Botkin. She knew that I was very interested in giving back and that I was involved in mentoring teens.

What made you want to get involved with the organization?

I was very concerned about the state of our children in this country and wanted to make a difference. I wanted to give every child a chance to be successful and live the “American Dream”. We are responsible for making the world a better place and I think that starts with investing in our children.

What is something that CHILDREN AT RISK has done since your involvement that you are proud of?

I am extremely proud of the strides we have made in school breakfast and lunch programs. Our legislative efforts as well as our education of the school districts have pushed forward programs that assure each child can have food to eat and are not going hungry. The advancements for quality healthcare and daycare are other areas I am very proud of. Of course, our advancements and legislative efforts to end child trafficking are key efforts as well.

How do you see the state of children changing in the far future?

I see the education systems to be more uniform for children of all social and economic backgrounds and offer all children a chance to be successful, but it requires us to continue to work on those efforts. We have seen the effects of the pandemic on education of our children and how detrimental it was to those low- income families. This shows that it takes a continuous effort to improve the lives of our children. There is no “one and done” solution. Continuous effort is required along with focus and resources.

What legacy do you hope to leave for children?

I hope to leave a framework through CHILDREN AT RISK that values all children and provides a world that allows them to live a fulfilling life.

What impact has CHILDREN AT RISK left on you?

I have become more passionate concerning efforts to improve the lives of children. Through CHILDREN AT RISK, I keep up to date on the issues through workshops and programs. CHILDREN AT RISK offers solutions based on unbiased research and studies. The solutions are achievable and measurable.
